According to the Ministry of Health of Japan, about 4.6 million elderly people in the country have the symptoms of dementia. It's a half million more than the figure posted in the previous year.

The research team interviewed the Ministry of 5000 300 homes in eight cities across the country over the four-year period to March this year.

They found that approximately 15% of the respondents suffered from dementia, accounting for 4.62 million people out of 30.7 million people aged 65 years and older.

The ministry said that it will strengthen the system, which includes visits to the elderly by experts in order to provide them with assistance at an early stage.
